Turpentine. I've always been afraid of it ever since childhood.
The reason is when I was in elementary school I read a story about two princesses. One princess was fair and kind, the other ugly and cruel. The lovely Princess was to wed the man the ugly princess had been pursuing. In retaliation the wicked princess poured turpentine into the good princess's drink, which killed her in a horrible gruesome manner. It's been a LONG time since I read this story and it may be that the evil girl was killed instead, but this is how I remember it. From then on I was terrified and thought (unknowingly) that even being near turpentine could be harmful. I told my mother of my phobia and she was quite shocked "I was ALSO afraid of turpentine when I was younger! My father was a house painter so he had cans of turpentine lying around. He told me they were dangerous and I never wanted to be anywhere near it" Needless to say I was amazed to learn my mother and I shared this unusual fear.
The reason I bring this up is because now that I'm an art student I'm suddenly surrounded by Turpentine!
If you're unfamiliar with it, turpentine is used as a method of removing paint. You put a drop of it in a bucket of water and use it to wash off your brushes. I have yet to use this method for cleaning my brushes (as I mostly work with acrylic) but I do see other students carrying around cans of it.
It's silly; but it feels like my childhood is creeping back into my life in unusual ways!
I have to ask, has anyone else ever heard of this bizarre fairytale?
What are some of your own childhood fears? Are you still afraid of these things or can you laugh at them now?

Eclipse
Eclipse is blindingly awful, it makes looking at anything a 3 step process. It's tedious, counter-intuitive and just all-around not good. It made trying to get through my watch list such a long process, I would give up in frustration.
Thank God for the Toggle function. I feel bad for any new users who don't have the choice to go back to classic green.
Deviant art, why do you have to mess with a good thing?
Does anyone out there actually like Eclipse? I'm really interested to hear. If you do like it, what aspects of it do you find easier, more functional?
Flash frightens me
I finally got Flash CS6, and now I have the daunting task of actually learning how to use it.
Seriously, I opened it up for the first time and was like "Whaaat?!". Witchcraft!
I'd like to make a flash game, but I am hopelessly lost. If anyone knows of any good tutorials send them my way. I need something like, "Flash for complete and utter idiots".
Also, I just got back from the most AMAZING holiday in England. I was visiting my sister, and we had a grand old time. But I came back with a nasty head cold. Aw well, it was worth it!
Man, what's taking so long?
It's been a long 2 months, I've been back at school and we're already at midterm time. Jeez, that's a little overwhelming.
I've been working on something art-related this whole time, off and on. It'll be done soon and then I'll post the whole thing. I'm quite proud of it, but it's also been a good exercise in relaxation. It's always a good idea in a high-stress environment to take some time to yourself everyday to do something you enjoy. Even if it's just a half an hour, take some time for yourself. Read, write, sew, knit, sing, dance, plan a murder. Whatever passes the time.
Heh heh heh...
Past Me vs Current Me
Hey all of you who read my sappy journal entries.
I want to thank !avidfreakazoidfan (https://www.deviantart.com/avidfreakazoidfan) for her kind words, you're awesome.
So I just spent the last several hours scanning hundreds of pages of loose sketches I have stored in my very messy room. I'm trying to get rid of these, and thus make my room a little less of a massive fire hazard. And as as I was scanning all these really old sketches, I realized something. I am SO MUCH BETTER!!! I mean jeez some of these suck, and some are mildly good but they are NOTHING compared to my current drawing skill. I'm not saying I'm a great artist right now, but I'm 50x better than past me. Suck it past

Birds are my biggest fear... I was chased by a turkey on a farm when we went on a field tripe for preschool. i was petting the baby cow and it just ran at me from no where. i flipped out. Now I can't watch any movies or anything involving birds. And wouldn't you know it one of my Lit. classes in high school was British Literature and we studied a little Alfred Hitchcock. So we watched "The Birds".... I almost died. Like I can't even walk around outside without fearing for my life and that new owl movie coming out? Can't watch the previews on TV. The funny thing is though that my oldest sister and my grandma both have the same fear of birds. So maybe it's NOT just the turkey's fault...
